Venture Capitalist Mac Conwell II to Guest on 'Sex Tech Connect' Sunday

LOS ANGELES — Venture capitalist McKeever "Mac" Conwell II will appear as a special guest of the Sex Tech Connect teleconferencing event series this Sunday, which was organized by the recently formed networking group for the sextech and adult retail industries, and professionals involved with sexuality research, journalism and the arts.

The group meets Sundays at 10 a.m. (PDT) for "Virtual Brunch, Happy Hour or Late Night Drink." Recent guests have included Dr. Ava Cadell, Ricci Joy Levy of the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, Colin Rowntree, Lora Haddock DiCarlo and Buck Angel.

The group was formed earlier this year during the initial COVID-19 lockdown. "'Sex Tech Connect' has kept people in sex tech and related sexuality fields connected from around the world on a virtual platform every other Sunday for an interactive and lively discussion about hot and relevant issues facing adult industry," a rep explained.

Sex Tech Connect co-founder and adult industry attorney Maxine Lynn expressed excitement about "this next phase where we will connect our community members to venture capitalists."

“It’s no secret that sextech companies have a very hard time to access capital because of discrimination against the industry," she said. "We are very happy to be able to offer this new experience, which will hopefully open up opportunities for start-ups in the space."

Mac Conwell, a rep observed, is "well-suited to kick this off as he conducts extensive outreach to tech communities and ecosystems, and does a lot of work supporting founders who consider themselves to be economically or socially disadvantaged. He has immense involvement in helping entrepreneurs, as he can share knowledge from his own path and endeavors."

Conwell founded his first tech startup, Given.to, in 2009, "which completed two accelerators, Accelerate Baltimore and NewME Accelerator. He was later named entrepreneur-in-residence at NewME," the rep continued. "Mac and his team sold the technology in 2014. His next venture, RedBerry, was accepted into the Dreamit Ventures Accelerator in Philadelphia."

During Sunday's meetup, attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly to Conwell and network with each other.

"I am really excited to speak with an amazing group of people this weekend to share my own perspective and learn from theirs," said Conwell. "It'll be a fun conversation for us all."
